Information for Faculty Applicants

All faculty applicants to Quest, please note the following before you apply:

Quest is a new, private, not-for-profit university located in Squamish, British Columbia, half-way between Vancouver and Whistler. We emphasize high-quality liberal arts teaching in a collegial setting without traditional departments.

We look for candidates who are innovative, flexible, excellent teachers capable of developing interdisciplinary, seminar-style courses. Successful candidates are also expected to teach introductory and intermediate courses in their own fields. We prefer candidates who can teach the areas suggested in the job advertisement, but research field is open.

Other duties include student advising, recruitment, and university service. The PhD is required by the beginning of the contract date; the preferred start date is August 1, 2009. Quest operates on a block (one course at a time) teaching system, and the teaching load for this position is six blocks (out of twelve) per year.

We have neither faculty ranks nor tenure; all full-time faculty members are offered renewable contracts and hold equal rank. We are strongly committed to principles of academic freedom. While we offer moral, intellectual, and some financial support for the research interests of our faculty members, if you are interested primarily in a traditional academic career focused on research, please do not apply for this position.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. Quest University Canada is strongly committed to employment equity and welcomes applications from all qualified women and men, including visible minorities, Aboriginal people and persons with disabilities. Applications are accepted until the position is filled. Interviews begin January 15, 2009.

All applications must include (1) a cover letter (a) demonstrating familiarity with the Quest academic program, (b) describing which of our Foundation courses you would be prepared to teach, and (c) explaining what you can contribute to our innovative curriculum; (2) a curriculum vitae, including the name and contact information of three references, and (3) a statement of teaching philosophy. All applications must be sent electronically; no applications will be accepted through regular post. Send applications electronically to the following addresses:
