"What's your major?"
"Which university are you going to attend?"
For decades, students have been programmed to think of the following formula when making decision about a university or their major:
Major = Career
While there is some truth to this formula, it is not an absolute truth.
A career requires an education, but not always a specific education. Most successful people can identify problems, determine solutions, work with people from diverse backgrounds, and can communicate in written and spoken form regardless of their formal academic training.
This is the goal of a Quest education... to produce graduates who can think, communicate, solve problems, work in collaborative environments, and make a difference no matter where they go.
At Quest, the emphasis is not on following a cookie-cutter curriculum. For this reason, we do not have "majors" in the traditional sense. After completing two years of foundation program courses, students at Quest work with a faculty team to develop a "Question" that serves as the blueprint for the final two years of study.
For comparison purposes:
| Typical 'U' | Quest |
| Political Science | What political and economic factors allow for communism and capitalism to coexist? |
| Pre-Med | How have global pandemics influenced population growth? |
| Pre-Law | Is justice attainable? |
| Environmental Studies | By looking at past ecological crisis can the severity of a disaster be used to develop a predictive model for governmental response? |
| World Literature | Can beauty be found in tragedy? |
| Biology | Should the bridge between nanotechnologies and humanity be crossed? |
You can see that students at Quest gain an incredible amount of technical knowledge and expertise in their areas of interest that can lead to graduate school or careers, but they also have to explore the context of their question as it relates to the world in which we live.
